• Nominated Lists

Best Picture Book - suggested for students in kindergarten through grade 3

Best Chapter Book/Novel - suggested for readers in grades 4 thru 8.

Students who have registered may vote in either category as long as they read or have read to them the minimum of 5 books. Many avid readers may wish to read all the nominated titles.

• Educational Kit

  The $20 registration fee helps cover the cost of producing a kit that includes:

1. Author/illustrator information sheets
2. Checklists
3. A certificate
4. Book marks
5. Two colour posters of the nominated books

• Author/Illustrator Info Sheets

  Each nominated book has a 2 page information sheet that includes:

1. Photo of author or illustrator
2. Author or illustrator Bio
3. Beginnings as a writer or illustrator
4. Contact addresses
5. Photo of nominated book
6. Book summary
7. Inspiration behind the story
8. Writing or illustrating tips.

• Voting

  Votes may be snail mailed or emailed before the Gala. Each year a new date is set. The kit contains Student Voting Ballots as well as Master Voting Ballots.

• Introducing an Author or Illustrator's Book

  Students may wish to introduce one of their favorite books. If you have students who would enjoy presenting one of the nominated titles at the June Gala event, please contact us.

• Guidelines & Ideas for Introducing a Book at Gala

1. 3 minute summary
2. Be creative…dress up as a character in the story...talk about the story from this character's point of view…or write your speech as a poem…or present a tiny scene from the story with another student.
3. Speak with a clear, strong voice.
4. Memorize if possible.
5. Have fun!

• Awards Gala Event

A Chocolate Lily Award will be given in June every year to the BC authors and illustrator whose books are voted best by students. Students have an opportunity to meet many of the nominated BC authors and illustrators. The event includes:

1. Opening Parade
2. Awards Ceremony
3. Door Prizes
4. Books Signings
